Pearls in Bloom (2024)

Haiku

Constance Patrick’s second book of haiku poetry, Pearls in Bloom, showcases her well-honed ability to evoke emotions and images with just a few carefully chosen words. Its simplicity often belies its depth, making it a powerful tool for reflection and connection with both nature and others.

Patrick’s haiku not only beautifully captures the essence of brevity but also conveys a sense of re-discovering our own moments in nature we thought we had forgotten. In some ways, her haiku feel as if the reader has found a vintage tin-type forever holding a moment in nature the reader can also experience first-hand the feeling of being in the moment with the author and nature…the feeling of being one with both.

The haiku in Pearls in Bloom are short
poems of songlike quality. The succinct nature of haiku encourages readers to engage with their imagination and emotions, fostering a deeper connection not only with nature but also with fellow human beings. It is a testament to the power of simplicity in art and the profound impact it can have on our well-being and sense of belonging. Patrick’s Pearls in Bloom brings this home.
